As soon as i knew that the new engine would be with v2.5 and not 3.0 I did think we might get the new engine somewhere in March.
Things seem to be on schedule for that prediction of mine! ^_^
I think it's gonna be longer... After Korea releases it, it usually still have to go through localisation changes and more testing here.
Seen the trailer, the new engine and gfx changes are great... I'm just afraid I might need to consider a new computer. Aion 1.0 ran smoothly, 1.5 started to get slower already, and right now having major lags wherever are people around. Ah well, we'll see I guess.

New healing potions that will remove 3 debuffs
Don't like the sound of that. Right now we already have insane amounts of different potions. White 'potions', green 'serums', blue ones, and since 2.0 those dropping elixirs doing about the same. Combined with all the different food we got from events, all the different quest items I still have from half finished quests, and a couple things I need with me anyway, most of the time I can't do better than having my inventory filled 80/99 all of the time...
Aren't the Healing Roots able to remove 3 Debuffs already? I never tried it, though
QuoteCan no longer combine attack speed and casting speed weapons
The Casting Speed Cap is good, but I don't like this one. Attack Speed can help a Mage, but it's not like it makes anyone overpowered with this.
Indeed Sue, takes away the possibility to combine our healing and physical attacking capabilities. Sad how hybrid classes always draw the short stick...
Maybe it's only for mages, so they can't benefit from both atk and casting speed, which is not fair at the moment, as they are the only ones, who can rise their speed, using 2 attributes.
For healing pots. It's already in game, we will just get another tier of it. At the moment the highest is 'Greater Healing Potion', which removes 2 debuffs.
Where are you getting this information? ... when I google 2.5 patch notes, and all I see are [joke] marked posts and speculation. :S
Graphics engine change, I HIGHLY doubt it! They are simply unlocking and using some additional features of the original CryEngine, primarily from looking at some of the vision trailer, some DX10 features. They would have to re-tool the entire game and all items/skins/3D/maps/etc if they were to change the base engine, basically an entire new game. Another option would be to import some of the current content onto a more recent CryEngine and save some design time, but that would further tax the client PC, I don't see a reason for it as we still can't even go to sieges and cities are laggy as h377.
If they cap the cast speed to 60%; sorcerers can achieve that solo (19+9+10+25, and this is WITHOUT cast speed gloves). This change would FURTHER gimp the Chanter class if you think about it. This is the worse (speculation) news possible if you are a chanter! The not being able to combine spd+cast on weapons I can see the reason, sorcerers will simply use attack speed scrolls/gear instead of cast speed ones and continue to stack the two speeds.
I think this all comes from the fact that Asmo sorcerers can achive 100% cast speed with BoQ or insta-cast solo for 10 seconds and wipe out whole groups, but Elyos can do the same with a chanter in group with WoQ. Perhaps they will re-think the BoQ and change it to match Elyos side.
Being a new game engine is possible Zeus. It's simply a compatible one. All and all, a diferent engine does not mean necessarly a diferent coding.
From what i understand, CryEngine 1 is being used now and we will use CryEngine 2. It is a new engine, but it does not force to rewrite everything.
Being a new engine also means that the code can be the same, but the engine will process it with more effects (colors and light effects) imediatly by itself. That and if ncsoft places higher resolution texture files that the engine can deal with, you will already feel quite the diference.
Comparison example: When developing flash content, most of the code will work on the newer versions of flash, only in some cases does the code need to be readjusted. However when developing new content (maps and new mechanics), will allow for new things (codes/functions) not possible before (example: new water effects, floods and more).
That, and also (rumours?) we will have 2 clients. 1 for high graphics and 1 for standard. A bit like happened with EVE Online.
And there will also be a 64-bit version option instead of just the 32-bit version we have now. Such 64-bit will allow the game to use much more computer memory to process the game and it's graphics.
The word "gimp" again... :-X People are very negative and make drama before actually trying. I remember all the blabla about sin going to be gimped with the shock removal skill and ppl quitting the game before they even experimented and waited to see the impact of it.
yes more lag in sieges plz .
wtb shift+f13 now.
Go on ppl, that type of chat is not helpfull. It desmotivates without reason, because you still don't know what the performance will be.
All I know is that my machine has an Intel Extreme i7 965 @4Ghz, 12GB RAM, SSD HD, Dual 285GTX in SLI on just a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, 24/1Gb internet ADSL via a Cisco 877 router ~75ms ping, cause I'm out here in the middle of nowhere, (which is far beyond the system requirements for this game) and sometimes I can barely walk around in the towns, Shift-F12 is a complete must to even attempt a siege. The two waypoints in Sanctum completely CRASH my graphics driver 25% of the time. I certainly hope they address these performance issues rather than just throw in a little new content and make it shinier, the 64bit client might help a bit.
Hmm u sound like Knuckles a few months ago, he complained about the game, till we figured that i was having way more performance than him despite a lesser graphics card.
I can tell i have not your issues the way you mention them.
Yea, it turned out my CPU was just too weak. And about sanctum crashing the graphics card: yea that seems to be the game's fault. I'm getting it sometimes as well at some certain points. And the crowd causing lag: Any powerful pc will have trouble with that. Heard it was an engine problem
Back to the topic: Finally the sorcs are getting some kind of a nerf. They'll still be good even with it, so no biggie there. Just makes me wonder which class is next to be nerfed. I'm still waiting for that "target is too far away" fix.......

We already had pot drops before 2.0. Back then we had the normal ones. All they changed now is instead of those pots, the mobs now drop nerfer versions of those pots
What I totally fail to understand is the whole discussion about mages stacking both attack speed and cast speed. Why on earth would a Mage be doing any physical attacks?
I do see that Chanters as a hybrid class, will have most disadvantage. For an offensive Chanter it's easy to go for attack speed, but a supportive Chanter will have to choose... Cast speed will benefit support most, but weaken the character at the same time.

I think this is somehow an Aion issue with the nVidia drivers. It happens to me as well in Sanctum, I'm using a GeForce 9800 GT card, and before that had a 8800 GTX. And the card is definitely not the issue, I've run way more demanding games without any trouble at all.
Biggest bottleneck for me will still be my f***ed up internet connection. Sorry for the language, but it pisses me off badly. Supposed to be 25 Mbit ADSL, but barely getting 4 Mbit and the provider says it's because of my location, and the line is weak and they can do nothing about it. I'm sure they can, but they just won't >:(
Except for the speed, it's also highly unstable because of that, sometimes randomly dcing.

afaik, chanters never had any cast speed weapons so no harm's done to them
That's a fact. Would be nice to have a choice though.

Attack speed reduces the animation time of the spells and cast time speeds up the actual cast bar speed... a 100% attack speed/cast speed sorcerer would have no animations and instant spells, the bar just doesn't even pop up like when we are buffed in WoQ with our other self buffs.

I was enjoying very much reading everything, but the Legion upgrades as placed me literaly jumping in my chair and non stop grining :D Am quite, quite glad.
Ok, going back to read the rest of it. ;D
Thanks for the link!
Finished now reading, this feels almost like a version 3.0 :P :D I still think will happen somewhere in february, lastest at March.
sorc even more imbalanced, i bet they will give them hide II in next patch...
at least they trying to fix SM and I can see some good changes for sins (buffing while in hide)

I just seriously hope that the new areas won't be only lvl 55+ ones...
QuoteThe casting time of the Chanter's 'MP Recovery I ~ IV' skills have been reduced from 3 seconds to 1 second.
Since when do Chanters have a MP Recovery skill...?
"MP recovery" skill is not called that, but there is some advanced stigmas that allow it, however the CD of it, is pretty big (10m) which makes it not so useful.
Here they are:
[spell=small]Magic Recovery I[/spell] [spell=small]Magic Recovery II[/spell] [spell=small]Magic Recovery III[/spell] [spell=small]Magic Recovery IV[/spell]
I noticed that here the Database says 5m CD, need to confirm ingame still. But even so its too high. 5m cd to just recover that bit MP, to just 1 person is not worth spending a stigma slot. I mean, a pot recovers a similar amount of MP, and has only seconds of cooldown. And its not just 1 slot that gets wasted, but due to be a advanced stigma, one spends AP and more stigma slots to fill the pre-requesites of this stigma. This is the reason why i prefer to be a hybrid chanter.
For me to consider this stigma, they would have to make one of the following modifications.
- Recovery being at least 60% of the MP bar total value.
- Recovery being not just me but the full party in a area of 23-25m.
- Cooldown being 30s.
(just one of these, not all of them, because it would be overpowered)
Funny enough, the SM gets a skill to sacrifice HP to recover party's MP.
I don't know how SM's are doing right now at high lvl, but around lvl 30 I find them having most MP trouble of all classes. Sorcerers have more recovery skills & buffs, while SM uses up a lot on a single fight.
actually, that skill for solo is not so good. But for group play, that is quite usefull. But one needs to see the details of the skill.
1830 mana from stigma spell is not very good
When I think about this, lots of classes have stigma skills that needs to be redesigned. For instance ranger got Nature Resolve skill, which let you avoid 1 magical attack during 10 seconds, or can remove 1 debuff. You could say, that it is a very good skill - but check this - it has 10 minutes cooldown, so it is pointless to waste stigma slot on this skill.
Rangers got only 1 defensive abillity, what makes them the most squishy class in game. For exemple sorc got 5k dmg shield, Boon of Iron, Wintry Armor aaand if it's not enough, they will get self heal in 2.5...
Dont worry we get an arrow of Fear in 3.0 and maybe Barrage attack of heal lol ^^
Sorc and glad getting buffed is just ridicilous. But nice to see the other class buffs, especially like the chanter ones.

I'd like to know more on this... ;D
Can't wait to have full Udas set and a proper weapon so I can switch over to the PvP stigma set... gonna be sooo much funz!
Hooray for raising the magic boost cap, I mean I barely hit the mob now, need mooooooore magic boost! (send me your MB27 stones, ty)
Hooray for better shield, a 100k damage increase would be nice.
Hooray for HP recovery spell, pots cost alot in the new server economy, hope its 1s cast 1s CD so I can just solo instances like Clerics.
Hummm... wuts this, a level 55 summon Typhoon stigma with stun, looks like the Tree stigma is going byebye, moar pew pew, need!
I didn't see anything relating to combining Atk+Cast speed weapon in patch notes.
Temps getting another free taunt, good, maintain full pvp build.
New temp damage stigma, hope it has nice damage... might have to sacrifice Aether Armor for it, or rethink whole build so I don't get owned by mages in one hit. Probably shares CD with some other skill, like all the Templar stigmas, dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb-dumb... but now looking it over, shield burst has been enhanced, added knockdown and range to 5m, perhaps that is the new stigma to have! Drop me a shield you stupid spider! Glads get 50% healing every 1m stigma... nice, LOL... while Elyos temps have a 3k DP 100% with 30m CD, who's the real tank here?
Pet interactions... wtf... there's pets in this game? I thought they were just extra storage space... if you need a pet to tell you there's an asmo around, perhaps you should just go grind in Theo. Buy some dresses, suit with real $? You gotta be kidding me, greedy NCSOFT.
Any additional stigma slots? People on specific builds can't really add these new stigmas, the build tree should be loosened up a bit to allow better customization.
Didn't see a 64 bit client option, perhaps that's a build for 3.0...
Didn't see a level cap increase, no XP for me... for those of you that didn't know, DON'T let your bar get to 100%, keep killing yourself for recoverable XP BEFORE you hit 100%, after it will not add to recoverable! I let it hit 100% in an instance by mistake on sorcerer :'(
New character builds, do we get a free plastic surgery ticket? Doubt it, greedy NCSOFT! I personally like the toon looking manga look, why look so serious, its a game.
"Increased" drops from energy of repose, please enough of this "increase" BS!
6 Udas Temple yesterday 4 Up, 2 Lower..... total
3 gold drops, 0 Fabled..... 1 Dagger 1 Ring 1 Belt
Xioza was telling me 3 hours in BT... NO TY! I'll +15 my Udas set and be happy with that, 40m Udas is a stretch already for my concentration.
We won't see this until at least March anyway, and NCWest gets to pick and choose what they want, so ours will be different in many ways.
They better give us a set of level 55 fabled or even purple wings for our 18 month reward... I mean an EMOTE for 15 month?!?
Like the horse mount in 3.0 preview... the flying carpet reminds me of another game, wonder which one...
Rant over, nice wall of text, I'm bored at work... :P White will just end up summarizing this and making it expandable anyways... LOL

Assuming you mean Focused Evasion (dodge 1 physical attack within 5 secs, 30 sec cd) as their 1 defensive skill, they should give Natural Resolve about the same properties imho... Since it's about the same skill but against magical attacks.

graphics update in 2.5
It all looks very nice, but unless they've done some major improvements (and actually test them) to the way this game works, I'm not so sure if it's gonna work out very well for a big part of the community...
I'm aware that I don't have the newest and best PC anymore... But I also do know it can run far more demanding games with way better gfx than Aion with less problems.

graphics update in 2.5
Looks like they are utilizing some DX10 capabilities which the current CryEngine is more than capable of producing, so I still don't think it's a new engine. Perhaps the "bling" client will be DX10 and the regular still DX9 ... there will be 2 client versions from my understanding.
I already did a lot of digging on figuring out more about the aion engine details.
Basically it's a modified/evolved version of CryEngine 1.
Quick reference of engine = game:
CryEngine 1 = FarCry
CryEngine 2 = Crysis
CryEngine 3 = no launched game yet. Crysis 2 will have it (launch date: 25 March 2011).
Quick reference of engine = technology.
CryEngine 1 = Supports DirectX 9
CryEngine 1.2 = voxel and pixel shader 3.0 support added.
CryEngine 1.3 = High Dynamic Range (HDR) Lighting support added.
CryEngine 2 = Supports DirectX 9/10.
CryEngine 3 = Supports DirectX 9/10/11. Supports indirect lighting (objects being illuminated by light that bounces off from other objects).
Currently no game has CryEngine 3 still, so I don't know if Aion ever will.
As for Aion 2.5 I am still not sure of what is the case. If it is currently using cryengine 1.0 and jumping to cryengine 1.3 . Or if it is jumping from cryengine 1.x to cryengine 2. Even when comparing graphics of the 1.3 and 2.0 cryengines versus the vision trailer I am not able to be 100% sure. Although in the beginning I tough "for sure its cryengine 2" i am starting to think it's actually going to be a jump from cryengine 1.0 to 1.3. However NCSOFT did talk about a 64-bit version of the game in the future, which for cryengine that make me think of cryengine 2.0 so I am still to a lost. I've been using the tree's as comparison between cryengines 1.3 and 2.0 and altough the trees look like 1.3 in geometry/detail the visual effect of bluring things in a distance I only recall seeing it on cryengine 2 and Aion 2.5 is doing it. One needs to remember that cryengine 1.3 is somewhere in between the farcry and crysis looks, meaning that it has extra visual effects like better per pixel shader and light effects.
All in all, of course, the more the better. If we get cryengine 2 great. The upgrade will be welcomed even if its jumping to 1.3 (in case it's not 1.3 already).
So that you understand what i mean.

Those are part of the customizations to your character. In other words, beyond controlling the look of your char, you will also control the way it animates. On that case, the running animation was personalized already to have a "glide" feel.

When i see all the things that are going to come in 2.5 and 3.0 than i also know why i absolute will stay in this game.
It will only get better and better^^
I hope my pc can still handle it when all this is going to come out.
That was my sensation about Aion also, when i saw the vision trailer at the same time the game was launched with 1.0.
I imediatly understood there is heavy support and development on the way. That's why i am doing 1 year subscription already for the 2nd time.
A bit what happened with Wow, it kept growing and developing.

The Interview of the Month
Aion Producer Sean Neil and Aion Brand Manager Dominic Wai put their heads together and answered some questions from the community about the upcoming Aion 2.5 update and future Aion events.
Could you please tell us more about the visual effect upgrade that will come with Aion 2.5? Are we going to get what was shown in the Aion Vision trailer/movie?
Producer Sean Neil: The high quality graphics engine is exactly what we saw in the Vision trailer. I'd dare say the high quality graphic engine is even more impressive than what we saw there. Advanced texturing, deeper and clearer lighting and shadows, blooming, focus effects, sunlight effects, and a huge range of advanced options in your graphics settings will come to life when you take advantage of the advanced settings offered by the engine.
Players tend to complain about Aion being very demanding in terms of PC specs. How are you going to address this in the 2.5 graphics update? Will you release two clients, one with the graphics that we have today and one with the updated one for the enthusiast gamer?
Sean: The best part about the high quality graphics engine is that you aren't required to use it. The current graphics settings for the game will remain. Using the high quality setting is purely optional for those that have the machine to run with the advanced setting on. Once you choose the high quality engine, you are prompted to restart the game client, which then allows you access to the dropdowns and sliders associated with the new graphics settings.
Regarding content, what are the major new features that we can expect with 2.5?
Sean: The 2.5 update adds two new instances: Empyrean Crucible and Esoterrace. The Empyrean Crucible is an endurance gauntlet group instance for levels 51-55. You'll face several different bosses—some new and some familiar. Esoterrace is a huge outdoor Abyss Point instance that challenges you to cut off the Balaur supply lines. It's massive.
Brand Manager Dominic Wai: The Aion 2.5 update also incorporates some really nice new social features, including an increased maximum Legion level that gives you access to a brand new Legion cloak. The update also adds a new mentoring system that helps new players level up quicker with the help of a friend. PvP players also get all new eternal AP items to strive for.
Players have been very happy about the recent events, especially PvP. Do you have any plans that you would like to share with us? Can we expect more cool events with 2.5?
Sean: We recognise that Aion players fall into lots of different groups: PvP, PvE, casual, hardcore, solo players, and group/Legion players. We have plans to run a variety of different events that appeal to as many players as possible, but it's impossible to run an event that makes every player happy. We have been discussing this recently, and we decided to create some events that are very specific to the preferences of some of our players, including our PvP players. Our goal is to constantly engage you not only with new content, but with ongoing events—community events, in-game events, so-called microevents (like Behind Enemy Lines and Increased XP), and system events. Short answer: Yes! We're planning lots of cool events this year.
Dom: We're also looking forward to getting your feedback on how much you enjoy each event so that we can make sure to provide you with the right events on a regular basis. When you fill in the survey at the end of each event, you help us make sure we're making plans to provide the right gameplay environment for your needs.
Sean: One last thing I'd like to mention: We're shooting to have Aion 2.5 on our player test servers (PTS) at the end of April or beginning of May, so you'll all have a chance very soon to see it for yourselves!

Quote2.5 Empyrean Calling – Daeva-Palooza!
Greetings Daevas!
Update 2.5 Empyrean Calling is heading to the North American and European Live servers on May 25th! In celebration of this new update, the Aion team is hosting weeks of mini-events both prior and after the launch of Empyrean Calling.
May 11 – June 8: Increased XP Event
May 11 – May 17: 'Behind Enemy Lines Rifting Event'
May 18 – May 25: Increased Drop Rates Event
May 18 – June 1: 'For War and Glory AP Event'
May 25 – June 8: 'Gateway Getaway Event'
May 25 – May 31: 'Behind Enemy Lines Rifting Event'
June 1 – June 14: 'Atreian Artisan Expo'
The 'Behind Enemy Lines Rifting Event' is a recurring event we are currently hosting in Aion. During this rifting event, we'll remove the defensive buffs in Heiron and Beluslan. The defensive buffs will remain in place in Eltnen and Morheim.
Our 'For War and Glory AP Event' is a popular event that is focused primarily on abyss points. This event specifically, letting you get more AP and keep more. AP loss from PvP encounters in the Abyss and Silentera Canyon will be reduced by 50%, all other areas of the game will deliver the normal amount of AP loss. Additionally we will be increasing the amount of AP gain from monsters in the Abyss and Silentera canyon, giving you more AP per kill.
During this 'Gateway Getaway Event', we will introduce special entrance gates that allow your characters to enter instances despite fort ownership. You can enter a selection of the Upper Abyss fort instances and Divine's Abyssal Splinter from the home territories of Primum and Teminon, and access Silentera Canyon from inside your home base in the Illusion and Gelkmaros fortresses.
The 'Atreian Artisan Expo' is a popular event returning to the world of Aion. The Artisan Masters of Atreia have arranged for a two weeks devoted to accelerated skill-up in crafting, essencetapping and aethertapping!

Hi All,
Well curiosity did NOT kill the cat this time, it made it purr.
Wanted to see how characters would look in 2.5 and how laptop would hold up playing in 2.5, so made and updated PTS directory and looked. They look good. Since there was talk about a remodel ticket i wonder what I'm missing. Noticed some - to my point of view - irritating gold shine on Ker's sweet Kromede red hair in "High Quality" but ok like poor Kromede she'll suffer in silence.
With respect to performance there were two basic settings: "Default" and "High Quality". To my joy with the "Default" setting "Auto Detect" gave me the same settings as in 2.1: 1920X1080 and all maxed, anti alias X2. When I selected "High Quality" the joy was over :):
Display went down to 1280X720 (superplus ungood)
Texture detail: remained high
Object range, terrain range, background detail and effects quality: lost a notch
Water effects, shader quality and outline correction: lost 2 notches
High quality backgrounds: lost 3 notches
Shadows: lost all 4 notches
The good: if you can play at max now you will be able to play at max on "Default" settings it looks like
The bad: If you want to enjoy the "High Quality" it looks like you want to invest in some serious graphics power especially with the high pixel count displays.
For reference the portable has a Intel 740QM quadcore cpu, a 1920X1080 display, a 460M nvidia card with half the cuda's you'd find on a desktop version of the card, and 8gb RAM.
So most desktop users will get a better mileage.
Arieluma,
Ker
About the mentor system that is going to be introduced on aion 2.5
(http://static.na.aiononline.com/powerbook/aion/48/44/e97200941724ebae02124f0e.jpg)
Question: Can a Group have more than one mentor?
Answer:
Yes, the Group can have more than one mentor, and the XP and loot any mentees in the Group earn will not be affected. Any players in the Group eligible to be mentors can click 'Start Mentoring' on the mentee and become a mentor.
Question: What happens if someone in the Group is not a mentor, but is more than ten levels higher than a mentee?
Answer:
XP and drop rates would be adversely affected in this scenario, just as if a lower level player formed a Group with a high level player without the Mentor System. Bottom line: be sure all high level players in the Group opt to be mentors.

If you open the NCSoft launcher, it will already download tonight your aion upgrade from 2.1 to 2.5
It will say in the status "Trickle downloading", if you press the arrow and choose "check for updates" you will see the progress window.

This means you don't need to wait tomorrow, after the servers re-open. It will use the tonight's download.
Found that out too, ready for tomorrow! ;D
So
Does all of this 2.5 business mean that Aion becomes easier to play
or does it mean that it becomes even more complicated than it already is ?
If there is one thing that I like best then it is an easy life...
It's what makes flowers grow ! :)
Damn I need a new graphics card... The HQ quality burns up my gpu to 75°c in only a few mins of gameplay. That can't be right
Most GPUs normal thermal range is from 80-100c, I would not worry about it. My 285 GTX cards run 90c all day no probs.
Perhaps, but I'm sticking to the normal graphics for now till I get a new card
Oh I can see that NC are trying to entice Bronny in and get their hands on my hard-earned (drinkies) money like cheeky monkeys they are ! >:( I have seen evidence of this during my free week and here are two pieces of such:
1) Expert handicrafting is now easier - you have to make necklaces that you can buy recipies for and dont have to anymore collect several hundred logs to make a staff and a bow where you need it to crit (and it never does, no-matter how nice you ask it). I was beginning to think I was a lumberjack or something - why do you need so many logs to make on bow with anyway whereas in real life you need only one (or even a small part of one).
But now it is changed there is <hope> ! :)
2) I have spotted smoewhere new with quests for the lev 48's called "Sneeze Crater" - when I tell Uther that he says "Dont be a muppet !" because he does not believe the name but it is true.
And likely you lot knew all this already and there is much tutting and eye-rolling going on atm at my ignorance. And I say be careful cos if you roll your eyes about too much then they will fall out ! ::)
About (1) I can say that this change was already there since the last big update before 2.5 ;)
bronny i been away and still dunno what that sneeze cratter thing is lol. i didnt even knew till monday that now there is a repeat quest to bypass the advanced stigma quest (where we had to colect drana from DP). as i said before when i got back to aion, it seems im learning all again lol.
The level 55 final advanced stigma is most fun, Asmos camp the mob spot we need to kill... :)
haven't seen any asmos there while doing the quest...was lucky :P
Or just do it the original way and get it done with BT runs
